CWA Supports Democrats?

"I'm a Conservative.  Why should I listen to my Union when it comes to the elections?"

CWA supports candidates who support workers' rights.  CWA supports candidates with a record of supporting our issues whether Democrat or Republican.  Labor's selection process includes candidate interviews, evaluation of voting records and a candidate's commitment to support a working family's agenda. Candidates are evaluated based on their support for labor's agenda, not their political party.  In recent years, Democrats have been more likely than Republicans to support a working families' agenda.

So, the question we ask is, "which candidate?" Not, "which party?"  Often the candidate who supports working people turns out to be a Democrat, but many times Republicans like LaTourette (R, OH) and McCotter (R, MI) support our issues, so we support them.

There are conservatives, liberals, right-wingers, and left-wingers in CWA.  The one thing - the only thing - that really matters is that we are all union members.  We all believe in justice on the job and we all believe that our ability to secure good wages, affordable health care, and pensions for our families is the power we have through collective bargaining - the power we have as a Union.

CWA does not spend your dues money on politicians.  We use voluntary contributions from our political action fund, COPE, to support candidates who support the working family's agenda.  We have no position on gun control or abortion.  You can contribute to COPE through a payroll deduction on a voluntary basis. Call your Steward, call your Local, get a COPE card and fill it out!
